CYENS in collaboration with NeMe present a lecture by Rose Butler, discussing current research and demonstrating methods of art practice. The lecture showcased various examples of selected video installations and multi screen works, alongside digital shorts and photography.

Her talk focused on the development of her art practice, from experimentation with video art to her current research & technologically augmented methods centering on the themes of borders and surveillance.

Rose is an artist, researcher and senior lecturer of Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University, UK. She uses adapted technology and custom built software alongside early cameras and analogue techniques to make interactive installations, single and multi-screen videos or large-scale photographs. Rose is interested in the physical and digital, visible but also invisible barriers that keep people alienated or impose power dynamics. Recent doctoral study considered new UK surveillance legislation (2016) through the use of and research into hidden cameras at the Stasi Film and Video Archives, Berlin. This talk was delivered during her research trip to Cyprus where, in collaboration with Jeremy Lee and Kypros Kyprianou and in partnership with NeMe, will be presenting a new body of work at the NeMe Arts Centre.
