5th Berlin Biennial curator announcement

The organizers and the international selection committee of the 5th berlin biennial for contemporary art in 2008 are delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Szymczyk, Director of the Kunsthalle Basel, as the curator of the forthcoming berlin biennial.

 

Pixelache 2007

We are currently looking for both finalized projects as well as concepts/prototypes to be presented in Pixelache events during 2007. We encourage people from all disciplines to participate! Artists / academics / architects / designers / hackers / activists / engineers / VJs / etc, you are all welcome.

 

Sound:Space - Screen

South Hill Park Arts Centre is hosting the Sound:Space Symposium event on 20th January 2007. The day features talks and discussions examining contemporary artistic use of Sound in the environment, featuring Janek Shaefer, Kode9, Neil C. Smith, Radio Access Memory, Prof. Aaron Watson, Acoustic research of Megalithic monuments, Resonance FM, Open Source audio software lab, digital distribution systems.

Victory Media Network

The Victory Media Network (VMN), an urban-scale outdoor art gallery in the heart of Dallas, invites you to submit your work for inclusion in its inaugural collection. VMN is seeking extraordinary motion arts including stunning visual storytelling, stylized live action, cutting-edge motion graphics, experimental animation, and very short films. This collection will be the first body of artwork ever shown on Victory Plaza. Submissions must be received by November 15, 2006.

 

Renascence 07

VSA arts is seeking submissions from innovative, experimental artists with disabilities whose work demonstrates the creative fusion of visual art with interactive or sensory experience; communication and information technologies; movement or performance; and/or audio production. Applicants from a wide range of practices, such as digital arts, installation, and time-based media, are encouraged to apply. There is no fee.

Since 1998 mur.at has been working on a virtual NetSculpture which is constantly growing and branching out. This widely ramified Net – the leased line net – offers a democratic and unbureaucratic access to new communication and information technologies to people engaged in the artistic and cultural sector in the area of Graz apart from e-business and e-commerce.

27 Bienal de São Paulo

After a year of research, meetings, visits to ateliers in several countries, the chief curator, Lisette Lagnado and her team compiled the list of the 118 artists chosen to paticipate in the 27ª Bienal de São Paulo (see complete list below).

Associacao Cultural Videobrasil is now accepting submissions for Southern Panoramas, the competitive exhibition of the 16th Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival.

 

The United Nations Plaza

The United Nations Plaza is a temporary school. Structured as a seminar/residency program in the city of Berlin, it will involve collaboration with approximately 30 artists, writers, theorists and a wide range of audiences for a period of one year. In the tradition of Free Universities, most of its events will be open to all those interested to take part. United Nations Plaza is organized by Anton Vidokle in collaboration with Liam Gillick, Boris Groys, Martha Rosler, Walid Raad, Jalal Toufic, Nikolaus Hirsch and Tirdad Zolghadr.

Liverpool Biennial 2006

Today, the idea of culture as an expedient has gained legitimacy in West and underpins the enormous capital investment in a contemporary art infrastructure (of late in China). Increasingly, culture is supported as a purveyor of economic development and a tool to remediate social inequality. This trend has produced a contradiction for art whereby accountability and visibility jar with self-organisation and open-ended processes of valorisation.

 

FLEFF 2006

Radically reconfigured for the 21st century in 2006, the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF) is a multimedia festival that explores the theme of sustainability and the environment within a large global conversation that embraces a range of political, economic, social, and aesthetic issues, including labour, war, health, disease, music, intellectual property, fine art, software, remix culture, economics, archives, AIDS, women’s rights and human rights.
