Urban planners and architects are used to shaping cities by means of infrastructure, zoning and buildings. However, other modes of intervention exist that are capable of influencing the development of a city. Communicative media interventions can transform public spaces.

Piksel05 - Call for participation

Piksel [ 1 ] is an annual event for artists and developers working with open source audiovisual software tools. Part workshop, part festival, it is organised in Bergen, Norway, by the Bergen Centre for Electronic Arts (BEK) [2] and involves participants from more than a dozen countries exchanging ideas, coding, presenting art and software projects, doing workshops, performances and discussions on the aesthetics and politics of open source. Piksel05 will take place in Bergen 16. – 23 October 2005.

 

Award for Digital Literature

Vinaròs city council and the Open University of Catalonia, through its Hermeneia research group, have created the “International City of Vinaròs Award for Digital Literature”. This award looks to catalyse the creation of digital literature, its recognition and broadcast. It is open to writers working in Catalan, Spanish, English, French, Portuguese or Italian.
Work can be submitted from the first week of May until September 8.

The square has had an eventful past, having had numerous tabulæ rasæ followed by a succession of redevelopments: from river and marsh to dump, from bourgeois square to squat and hanging garden/artwork built on top of an underground highway. The current configuration, Agora, was conceived by artist Charles Daudelin (1975, completed in 1983).

The pieces submitted must be inspired by Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, and develop aspects related to the novel. Rather than merely illustrating the literary work, entries shall deal with those aspects, concepts, themes, ideas and issues presented in the book that remain valid today.

Gwangju Biennale 2006 general artistic director

The Gwangju Biennale Foundation is delighted to present the general artistic director for the Gwangju Biennale 2006, Kim Hong-hee, an art critic and director of the Ssamzie Space. The sixth in its series, Biennale is scheduled to be held for 65 days from September 8 to November 11, 2006. The board of directors of Gwangju Biennale Foundation cited the reason for selecting Kim as her prominent presence at home and abroad in supporting and planning many experimental art exhibitions; based on the Biennale’s 10-year history, the board sees the significance of 2006 Biennale as the initial step into the unexplored arena of new artistic culture.
