We welcome curatorial proposals from young (21-35 years old) practising curators, scholars, and artists from all disciplines for exhibitions, performances and research projects for the NeMe Arts Centre.

Veiling Identities: Resisting Recognition is a project focusing on the critical obfuscation techniques used by artists fighting against the digitally powered panopticon built by state and/or corporate actors. It aims to investigate how artists ethically weaponise their knowledge and imaginations to fight against potentially repressive consumer technologies.
On 31 of October, 2, and 3 of November you are invited to the opening of Algorithms of Power, being the introduction to a 2 to 3 year research project by NeMe which aims to scrutinise multiple areas related to the weaponisation of consumerist technologies. This long term project critically investigates and radically re-imagines, through the eyes of artists, scholars, and relevant actors the far-reaching issues that are emerging, damaging our democracies. endangering our lives, and our fragile peace in this geographical region and beyond.

Addressed to the President of the Republic of Cyprus, we support this petition which discusses, the attitudes of the current administration of the Deputy Ministry of Culture and the state of the cultural sector in Cyprus.

This year, the contemporary art scene in Cyprus has been overwhelmed by an avalanche of poor decisions and actions by the Deputy Ministry of Culture, demonstrating that its administration is not exercising its responsibilities with due diligence. We have reached a new low, as it appears that the Deputy Ministry is adopting a strategy of control through confusion, forcing the cultural sector to absorb itself in a constant response to frequent and poorly coordinated interventions and policy shifts, rather than focusing on research, development, and the evolution of artistic production. The result is a climate of insecurity and disorientation, which favors alienation rather than study and creation. Although there have been controversies in the past that have fueled the news and social media, never before have we had so many issues to contend with in such a short period of time as we do now.

Following the publication of the results of the “Culture II – Supporting Visual Activity and Development” Programme for 2025, and following our repeated interventions to the Department of Contemporary Culture – both through the Working Group and independent stakeholders – since November 2024, documented concerns and proposals for the Culture Programme have been submitted. In this context, we are taking a public position on the rejection of a significant number of proposals, as well as the systemic problems highlighted by the evaluation process.

After serious consideration, we have made the difficult decision to close our online Forum.
Following our meeting on October 14, where we discussed the grant program for the visual arts, we would like to express our disappointment in writing. While the focus of our meeting was on “Culture Program II, the work we have already completed, areas needing improvement, and a discussion about the changes your ministry intended to publish, which we believe are very problematic,” the new program was announced just two hours before our meeting, through a unilateral and authoritarian decision on your part, and unfortunately without consultation with the affected parties, at least those in the visual arts sector, while you mentioned that there were in-person consultations with other sectors.
Today, archiving is not restricted to artefacts kept behind locked doors but also digital data kept behind password protected firewalls. The increase of digital data, kickstarted the development of new big-data sciences but also the now ubiquitous AI technologies.
