Introducing Rosemary Lee

NeMe’s artist in residency for the 2024 edition of EMAP is Rosemary Lee.
During the residency, Rosemary will be examining discrepancies between the promises made about AI and the realities of how it materially acts on the world. Developing a video installation and printed publication on this topic, she plans to draw connections between emerging modalities and aesthetics with current discourses surrounding algorithmic culture. Achille Mbembe’s necropolitics is an initial driving theme in the project, which is explored in connection with the work of other theorists including Luciana Parisi, Dan McQuillan, and Matteo Pasquinelli.
Selected from 585 applications, Rosemary Lee is an artist and media researcher. Her work considers how image production technologies fit within larger narratives about art, knowledge, and relations between humans and machines. Lee completed her PhD at the IT-University of Copenhagen. She has lectured and exhibited internationally in contexts centred on art and technology. Lee teaches on the history and tendencies of multimedia at the University of Porto.
Rosemary will be in Limassol for her residency period in March and June into early July.
