The motto of the 2008 festival is IDENTITY, reflected in film programmes, lectures and specials. Positioning by the media and artistic self-definitions will be pursued; individual, social and global identities in a rapidly changing world will be explored and queried according to subjective and scientific localisations.

 

The XXXVIII Tampere International Short Film Festival

Tampere Film Festival is an independent short film festival with an international and national competition.

The competitions are open and free for all who want to submit a film for the preview.

 

Tekfestival 7

Starting on October 1st (2007) through January 31st (2008) Tekfestival, an international showcase of independent and social cinema, accepts submissions for the 7th edition that will take place in Rome in May 2008.

 

In Transition Russia 2008 - call for entries

We are currently seeking submissions to be included in the project “In Transition Russia 2008” which is an international interdisciplinary exhibition and conference dedicated to making visible and creating dialogue about displacement as a result of war, globalization, and socio-economic, religious, race, gender and class tensions. It will take place at the National Centres of Contemporary Art, Yekaterinburg and Moscow, Russian Federation between 16th October and 22nd December 2008.

 

Microwave International New Media Arts Festival 2007

To bring media arts into the City, Microwave is introducing “Microwave x Project Canvas” in Festival 2007. “Microwave x Project Canvas” is a pioneering screening programme in collaboration with JM Network, the leading LED display network company in Hong Kong. We are now open calling for submissions. Selected videos will be broadcasted on the outdoor LED screens of JM Network, which are located in Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Causeway Bay, etc., a total of 8 hit local spots with over 200 million audiences per day.

 

ASPECT Volume 12

ASPECT: The Chronicle of New Media Art, an international biannual dvd publication, is currently accepting submissions of work best documented in a time-based format for Volume 12: Vital. This issue will explore that which is essential, grave, indispensable, and/or critical to existence.

Test! 8

The annual student Theatre and Multimedia arts festival TEST takes place again this October. The student organisation “Test – theatre to students” in cooperation with the student Centre in Zagreb created TEST in 2000, the festival is held on the premises of the student Centre. It originally began as a festival of works for Theatre, but by the 5th TEST, Multimedia art was incorporated into the programme. It has shown a number of works by international students, which have enriched the programme. TEST’s goal is to create exchange and interest for students within the region as well as introducing new ideas from international students, with emphasis on the performing arts and Multimedia.

 

ELO 2008

In conjunction with the ELO 2008 Conference, there will be a juried Media Arts Show, held from Wednesday, May 28-June 2, 2008 at Northbank Artists Gallery in downtown Vancouver, Washington, just a short walk from the conference hotel.

 

Dreaming a New Real

Loop Sanctuary IV, a recurring art/performance series at The Chapel + Cultural Center at Rensselaer, is accepting entries for a one-night presentation of projected film, video and multimedia works on the subject of dreams and the perception of reality. Accepted entries will be presented on January 11, 2008 at 7:00 pm at the Chapel + Cultural Center at Rensselaer, Troy, NY, USA.

 

Palestine Film Festival 2008

The 2008 Palestine Film Festival in London will open in April 2008 at London’s Barbican Arts Centre. The festival, the largest of its kind in the world, showcases an engaging selection of feature films, shorts, experimental work, animations, and documentaries of social, cultural and political themes related to Palestine.

 

Asian Art Biennial 2007 - Have You Eaten Yet?

The question “Have you eaten yet?” is a common salutation among various Asian populations as well as a greeting when initiating conversation, communication, and interaction. In an age of material scarcity, asking someone if they’d eaten was a projection of one’s own state of being and thus conveyed caring and good will, as if saying, “I hope you are not enduring hunger and have had a meal.”

 

PERFORMA 07

PERFORMA07, the second biennial of new visual art performance, opens on October 27 in New York City, launching a four-week program of performances, exhibitions, screenings, symposia, and live events including ten major PERFORMA Commissions by Carlos Amorales, Sanford Biggers, Nathalie Djurberg, Japanther, Isaac Julien, Daria Martin, Kelly Nipper, Adam Pendleton, Yvonne Rainer, and Francesco Vezzoli. PERFORMA07 features the work of over ninety international artists at more than fifty leading cultural institutions and venues throughout the city, with the participation of more than thirty curators, and is organized under the artistic direction of its founder, RoseLee Goldberg.

About the Manifesta 7 curators

he International Foundation Manifesta is delighted to announce the selection of the newly appointed curators of Manifesta 7, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art: Adam Budak (Krakow/Graz), Anselm Franke (Antwerp/Berlin) / Hila Peleg (Berlin) and the members of the Raqs Media Collective (New Delhi). Manifesta 7 will take place in the region of Trentino – Alto Adige / Südtirol, Italy from 19 July to 2 November 2008. The curators were appointed by the IFM board from a shortlist of more than 20 candidates.

 

Loukia Alavanou wins The DESTE Prize 2007

The DESTE Foundation for Contemporary Art is delighted to announce that the winner of DESTE Prize 2007 is Loukia Alavanou.
