Busan Biennale 2008

The 2008 Busan Biennale unfolds at the Busan Museum of Modern Art, Gwangalli Beach, and APEC Naru Park between September 6th to November 15th under the theme of “Expenditure.” Made up of the Contemporary Art Exhibition, the Sea Art Festival, and the Busan Sculpture Project, the 2008 Busan Biennale will exhibit a distinctive philosophy of “expenditure” and a vivid scene of contemporary art through a variety of artworks including paintings, photographs, videos, installations, outdoor sculptures, etc.

When things cast no shadow, the 5th berlin biennial for contemporary art, curated by Adam Szymczyk and Elena Filipovic, brings together artists from different generations and nationalities in an exhibition by day and night that aims to trace the diversity of art practices today.

You are invited to participate in the fourth annual workshop on Computational Aesthetics that will take place at the Hotel Riviera in Lisbon, Portugal from 18-20 June 2008.

 

The Comfort of Strangers

At Futuresonic 2008 in Manchester, 1-4 May, SoundNetwork will be creating a brand new kind of social space close to the centre of the festival where artists and visitors alike can meet, relax and experience sonic art. Our cafe will be an exhibition and an exhibit. Where ever you sit to drink your coffee, eat your cake, and talk there will be access to audio work (by means of headphone outlets inserted into the furniture) or a local network that allows you to experience and interact with sonic art work on your own laptop. In addition there will be live performances at our Binary Jam event showcasing some of the best emerging talent in live sound art and experimental music.

 

Dislocate 08

Dislocate questions our notions of place and location in the face of perpetual motion through multifaceted environments. The velocity of this passage is accelerated through new technologies, but as a result how does this impact upon our encounter with place and our attempt to communicate this to elsewhere? Through an exhibition, symposium and workshop series Dislocate will examine this encounter and communication, taking a journey through surrounding spaces and exploring our transient connections.

 

Transhift 08

Transhift is a time-based new media art festival. This juried two-day festival will occur at several venues in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. The first of its kind in Knoxville, this event will involve galleries and public spaces. The viewers’ experience will be framed by their transit from one piece to another – through downtown.

 

STATIC No.7: CATASTROPHE

The catastrophe takes care of everything: from Greek tragedy to sci-fi, from ethics to (an)aesthetics, from architecture to game theory, from opera to snuff. Static 7 aims to reconstruct the contradictions and oppositions of the catastrophic narrative, which is peripheral yet at the centre of all things, consigned to the past and always to be reinstated.

Transitland EUROPA Commissioned Videos

Transitland EUROPA invites artists, filmmakers, documentarists, and activists from the 10 new EU member-states to submit proposals for producing new videos that creatively interpret the phenomenon of “transition.” A jury will select 10 proposals, each receiving an award of 3000 euro for production, including expenses and fee.

The thirteen videos created for “IDEODROME 2006, Limassol: people and passages” and “IDEODROME 2007, invisible spaces” will be presented in a single, one hour screening at the Municipal Arts Centre in Nicosia, on Friday the 25th of January 2008, 8.30pm.

 

2008 BP Portrait Award

The Portrait Award, sponsored by BP, is an annual competition aimed at encouraging artists to focus upon and develop the theme of portraiture in their work.
