Art Award 2008, Kurt Eisner Kulturstiftung

In 2008, the Kurt Eisner Kulturstiftung (Cultural Foundation) will once again be presenting an award for the creation of an artistic work. Marking the 90th anniversary of Kurt Eisner’s proclamation of the “Free State” of Bavaria, this award will support artworks and projects that take a poli­tical stand in the sense of the ideals of freedom espoused by Eisner and the “Council of Intellectual Workers,” and at the same time demonstrate and reflect the con­temporary relevance of issues raised during the period of the Bavarian soviet republic.

International Biennial August in Art

This year for the first time will be presented as a satellite programme VIDEOHOLICA 2008 in the frames of the International Biennial AUGUST IN ART. VIDEOHOLICA 2008 aims to make the contemporary video art to the public with the chain of projections on public spaces, where it is less known. VIDEOHOLICA 2008 will present art works as by the good known artists as and by the young artists, who are working in this area.

 

backup_festival 2008

The backup_festival is a short film festival for young talents, who handle the different styles of production and expression in a creative analysis. They cross the borders of film in order to reflect and define the different possibilities of filming formats.

 

The Mirror Stage - Call for texts

To accompany “The Mirror Stage,” NeMe, will publish a book which will include images from the participating videos as well as texts which will reflect on the state of the video medium.

 

NEW LIFE BERLIN

Electrohype 2008

Rhizome Commissions Program 2009

In 2009, Rhizome will award seven commissions with fees ranging from $3000-$5000. This year, Rhizome has expanded our scope, formerly focused strictly on Internet-based art to encompass the broad range of practices that fall under new media art. This includes projects that engage creatively engage new and networked technologies to works that reflect on the impact of these tools and media in a variety of forms. With this expanded format, commissioned works can take the final form of online works, performance, video, installation or sound art. Projects can be made for the context of the gallery, the public, the web or networked devices.

 

PAN! PEINTURE 2

In order to create a dialog between the various current pictorial practices, the second edition of Pan! Peinture sums up the situation of the new painting and drawing practices by creating an event dedicated to them. To do so, the emphasis will not only be put on the pictorial support but also on its surroundings, by transforming an urban space into a creation and communication laboratory.

 

SIMULTAN04 Festival

Under the theme “Temporary Tactics,” Simultan04 explores a conflict situation, a difficult cohabitation between the independent audio-visual works and the cultural, social and political context in which they are born. “Temporary Tactics” wishes to highlight time and space connected “speculative” situations, the practice of acting and reacting, of making and creating, in the moment and in response to the stimulus of one’s immediate environment.

 

ArtBots

ArtBots is pleased to announce that the fifth international ArtBots exhibition for robotic art and art-making robots will take place at the Trinity College Science Gallery in Dublin, Ireland on September 19-21, 2008. Creators of talented robots are invited to submit their work for possible inclusion in the show.

 

Sculpture Quadrennial Riga 2008

The Centre for Art Management and Information (MMIC) invites artists to submit proposals for DICTATORSHIP OF THE MAJORITYSCULPTURE QUADRENNIAL RIGA 2008, an open-air contemporary art exhibition that will take place in Riga, Latvia August 29 – October 10, 2008. The exhibition is a starting point for the dialogue between general public, society and art professionals on the issue of contemporary public art and its role in the urban culture of the city of Riga.

 

Come Out & Play Festival

We are extremely excited to announce that Come Out & Play will be returning to New York City this spring. The festival will run from June 6-8. The excellent bookstore Blue Stockings will play host to the festival and serve as headquarters. The festival will spread across the Lower East Side of Manhattan, bringing the streets to life.

2008 will see the 5th anniversary of Ocean Pixel, and this is your opportunity to be part of it. Submissions are now being called for from digital artists whom wish to showcase their work.

 

Climate Clock Global Initiative Call for Ideas

The Climate Clock Global Initiative is seeking ideas from artist-led teams to create a major artwork entitled Climate Clock, which will measure changes in greenhouse gas levels, and be the first in a series of global projects calling attention to climate change. Climate Clock will be an instrument of long-term measurement and will collect data for 100 years. The artwork will be located in downtown San Jose, California, Silicon Valley’s city center, and will be a collaboration between an artist-led team composed of artists, international and Silicon Valley engineers and other creative professionals who are working with climate measurement and data visualization. It is anticipated that the budget for the construction of Climate Clock will be between $5 and $15 million, depending upon the scope of the final proposal.

 

Festival of Regions: Normality

In 2009 the Festival of Regions will be oriented toward the southern edge of the city of Linz, along the Traun River, with a focus on the satellite town of Auwiesen and the residential complexes of Solar City. From Allende Square to Lunar Square, beyond the inner urban orientation toward concentration, commercial use and entertainment, and at a certain safe distance from the cultural spectacles propagated on all sides, the Festival of Regions is interested in the factual or imagined state of normality in urban life and in seeking out its cultural expression.
