Montréal, Tuesday, April 12, 2005 – For its 6th edition, Elektra is still set on introducing works and artists that crossbreed leading electronic music and visual art. Again this year, Elektra creates links between creative media rooted in audio, video, film, design and interactive installations, in conjunction with the latest digital technologies. To breathe new life into the term audio-visual (A/V) – now obsolete in our multimedia era – Elektra selected outstanding works that demonstrate in many forms the increasingly indissociable relationship between sound and image. From May 10 to 15, hook up your senses to the digital!
On Sunday April 17, an art auction to benefit the CAE Defense Fund raised $167,700. The auction, held at Paula Cooper Gallery in New York City, featured over fifty artists who donated their work to the cause.
This year, the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival will take place from November 8th to 13th, 2005. The festival presents current documentary films and videos, the media art exhibition MONITORING, as well as the interfiction symposium. Besides its physical attributes, our skin conveys differences between people; it takes on ancestral, historical, cultural and political implications. As time flows on, it carves more signs and meanings on our skin.
The idea of the festival is to integrate contemporary video art into the public spaces of Ekaterinburg city.The festival public screenings will happen on outdoor video screens network of “IgRek Cinema” company, 8 city screens located in the most busy spots. Selected video art works will be shown during one month each day in the pauses between commercial blocks, altogether around 240 screenings per day on each screen.
