Japan Media Arts Festival 15

The Agency for Cultural Affairs has been organizing Japan Media Arts Festival annually since 1997 with the aim of promoting the creation and development of the media arts. The Japan Media Arts Festival makes awards for outstanding creative works in the divisions of Arts, Entertainment, Animation and Manga, and provides opportunities to introduce these works through the award announcement, ceremony, and exhibition of the award-winning works.

 

Thessaloniki Biennale 3

The 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art under the title Old Intersection-Make it New, introduces itself to the public from September 18 to December 18, 2011 in Thessaloniki, Greece.

 

Medi(t)ation - 2011 Asian Art Biennial

The National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA) will present the third Asian Art Biennial from October 1, 2011. Under the direction of staff curator Iris Shu-Ping Huang, this exhibition proposes the theme Medi(t)ation, a concept that reflects the trend across Asia towards an M-shaped societal structure and the related threats it poses, while presenting a strongly communicative Asian cultural stance and stressing methods for mediating conflicts and tensions.

 

University of Virginia: Video/Animation project

The Niche, a new media project in the Fine Arts Library at the University of Virginia, is accepting submissions for screening beginning in late 2011. Our screening space functions like a gallery in that viewers may come to the work at any time and may or may not stay to watch the whole way through.

 

Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art 4

On September 23, the Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art opens its fourth edition. Titled “Rewriting Worlds,’‘ the Biennale will run until October 30. The main exhibition features 64 individual artists and 16 groups of artists from 33 countries, and is curated by Peter Weibel, director of the ZKM in Karlsruhe, Germany. As in previous editions, Joseph Backstein, is the commissioner.

The Electronic Literature Organization and West Virginia University’s Center for Literary Computing invite submissions to the ELO 2012 Conference to be held from June 20-23, 2012, in Morgantown, West Virginia.

 

Drawing Connections

Call for Artists to take part in an exhibition based on the theme of drawing, bringing artists from all over the world together to celebrate the act of drawing on a postcard sized work. The postcard-sized artwork can be in any media: the title of the exhibit is “Drawing Connections” and we are looking for original drawings or other artworks that celebrate the act of drawing (understanding that the act of drawing can also be celebrated in a variety of media outside of traditional drawing materials such as graphite and charcoal.)

Istanbul Design Biennial 2012

Aerowaves 2012

Aerowaves is a network which annually researches younger dance work in Europe, and seeks cross-border presentation opportunities for selected artists. In 2009 over 70 performances were confirmed in 22 European cities. This increased to over 80 in 2010, and we anticipate nearly 100 opportunities in 2011, listed on the Aerowaves Companies calendar as they occur. This application is for 2012, when we aim to offer as many opportunities, and possibly more.

 

Vox Feminae Film Festival 2011

Performa 11

Performa is pleased to announce Performa 11, the fourth edition of its internationally acclaimed biennial, taking place November 1-21, 2011 in New York City. Labs Show

V2_Lab and Baltan Laboratories (Eindhoven) launch a call for proposals from media labs around the world for recently produced artworks to be featured at the next edition of the Dutch Electronic Art Festival taking place from April 19-22, 2012 in Rotterdam.

 

Interfilm Berlin 2011: viral

Interfilm Berlin are looking for films with a message. All entries should be aiming to communicate either a promotional, ideational, political or original message. They should not be older than two years and should have already been successful at spreading the net via direct url, or at least be on the way to doing just that.

 

IMPACT

In the beginning, humans migrated. Continents were explored and settled, allowing diversity to flourish. Migration, at the core of the evolutionary process, led to adaptation and development of species and civilizations. Today, human migration is defined by country, origin, and culture-the rules and roles of immigration controlling and politicizing the process.

 

International Short Film Festival Winterthur 2011

Short films of all genres are accepted for submission to the Competition of the International Short Film Festival Winterthur, as long as they have been made within the past two years and their length does not exceed 30 minutes.
