Respublika! Seminars

Respublika! included three seminars in its program. The speakers were Nico Carpentier, Bart Cammaerts, Vuk Ćosić, Vaia Doudaki, Pascal Gielen, Helen Hahmann, Mathias Jud, Nicos Trimikliniotis, Christoph Wachter, and Hazal Yolga.

Respublika! was a multi-faceted project curated by Nico Carpentier examining and contributing to the discussions and reflections about participation and democracy, and how they are performed in contemporary Western societies. Focusing on participatory practices, the rich programme of the project included three exhibitions, two screenings, two workshops, three seminars, and six performances produced for various venues in Cyprus, and a publication.

On 13 January 2018 at 6:30pm, NeMe and the Respublika! curator, Nico Carpentier, invite you to the seminar Participation, Active Citizenship and Community Media which will be held in the NeMe Arts Centre. Speakers: Bart Cammaerts, Vaia Doudaki, Hazal Yolga, and Nico Carpentier.

 

Community media, Community art production and Democratic knowledge

This seminar aims to critically explore the artistic-democratic capacities of communities and their organisations, identify problems, obstacles and restrictions, and look ahead at the conditions of possibility for the continued democratisation of the social and its many fields. Speakers: Vuk Ćosić, Pascal Gielen, Helen Hahmann, and Nicos Trimikliniotis.

What does the war in Syria have to do with the privacy debate in Europe? What does NSA mass surveillance have to do with a Chinese Internet café, and where is Cyprus situated in this digital wargame? Christoph Wachter and Mathias Jud offer their own answers.
