Respublika! screenings

There were one documentary and one docudrama screened as part of the R! project. Both had to do with social participation and activism. One film was produced by Join2Media and the other by The Groupe ALARM.

Respublika! was a multi-faceted project curated by Nico Carpentier examining and contributing to the discussions and reflections about participation and democracy, and how they are performed in contemporary Western societies. Focusing on participatory practices, the rich programme of the project included three exhibitions, two screenings, two workshops, three seminars, and six performances produced for various venues in Cyprus, and a publication.

The Party of the Housing Dream

A series of characters who have left their homeland, or their hometown, spend their days and nights traversing the city of Brussels, searching for somewhere to live. Yet, despite their best attempts, they repeatedly find themselves back where they started – humiliated, cheated, outside, and alone. Gradually, the idea emerges that the only solution to their problems is to take democracy seriously and launch their own political party. Little do they suspect where their dream will lead them…
