DomeLab 2010
The emergence of ‘destination cinema’ and the proliferation of large-format screens in public spaces present a challenge – and opportunity – to filmmakers and artists working in more traditional screen formats. At the very least a new cinematic language is required, one taking account of the audience’s very different experience of stories presented on ‘frameless’ screens. Fulldome, with its hemispherical screens and surround-sound, is an accessible and powerful test-bed enabling filmmakers and artists to experiment with and develop this new language.
PLANET EARTH
We invite artists and scientists to submit digital prints that reflect their perceptions of our planet. Are these perceptions changing as we learn more about Earth from explorers, scientists, and artists? What is the relationship between all living things and planet Earth? What images are evoked by calling it the blue planet or the peaceful planet or the changing planet? What is the human impact on the whole planet? What is our concern for its future?

The Parsons Journal for Information Mapping (PJIM) is calling for papers and projects for publication in the September 2010 issue. PJIM is an academic journal and online forum designed to share knowledge about information mapping and its related disciplines (information design, data/knowledge visualization, taxonomies, data analytics, informatics, information systems, and graphic interface design).
Vilem Flusser Theory Award 2010
The Vilem Flusser Theory Award (VFTA), initiated in 2008 by transmediale in collaboration with the Vilem_Flusser_Archive of the University of Arts, Berlin (UdK) promotes innovative media theory and exemplary research into digital culture. The VFTA seeks work exploring current and pending positions in digital art, media culture and networked society, including outstanding and significant work which may be produced outside traditional academia.
