Sara Arrhenius has been appointed Curator of the 2005 Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art.
Arrhenius is a curator and a writer. Since 2001 she has been the Director of IASPIS ( the International Artists Studio Program in Sweden) where she has been running a program which has received much international attention. At the beginning of 2005 she will take up the position of the Director of the new art gallery initiated by the Bonnier family in Stockholm, which is currently under construction. Sara Arrhenius is one of the founders of the magazine NU – The Nordic Art Review, for which she was olso one of the editors 1999-2001. During the years 1996-99 she was the Editor for the art magazine Index. Since 1998 Sara Arrhenius is a writer and a critic for the daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter. She also writes for a number of Swedish and international magazines. Sara Arrhenius has published several books. The two latest are Black Box Illuminated, an anthology about the moving picture in contemporary art, which she also co-edited, and Annika von Hausswolff, an interview book which will be released during September 2004.

The Third Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art will take place 3 September – 6 November 2005. Organizer of the biennial is the Göteborg Konsthall – National and International Contemporary Art Gallery, which is a part of the City of Göteborg Arts and Cultural Affairs. The aim of the biennial is to present innovative contemporary art. In connection with the biennial there will be workshops, seminars and other activities which will illustrate the questions presented in the exhibition. The main scenes for the biennial are the Göteborg Konsthall, the Göteborg Konstmuseum and the Hasselblad Center. The exhibition concept and the participating artists will be presented in February 2005.
