This year’s Prix Ars Electronica winners will be announced on May 23, 2005 by Gerfried Stocker and Christine Schöpf, the competition’s artistic directors.
Outstanding works of art will be singled out for recognition with 6 Golden Nicas, 12 Awards of Distinction and numerous Honorary Mentions in the Computer Animation/Visual Effects, Digital Musics, Interactive Art, Net Vision, Digital Communities and u19 – freestyle computing categories.
Stocker and Schöpf will also announce the 2005 recipient of [the next idea] Art and Technology Grant. This award sponsored by voestalpine is designed to support promising artists between the ages of 19 and 27 in bringing their creative ideas to fruition. The winning entrant is also invited to spend a semester as scientific assistant at the Ars Electronica Futurelab.
Seven juries made up of internationally renowned artists and scientists have reviewed the works submitted for prize consideration and selected the best among them. The winners will receive their prizes on September 2, 2005 at the Ars Electronica Gala in the Brucknerhaus in Linz.
