November 4th-10th, 2005
ArteEast invites filmmakers of the Middle East and its diasporas to submit new work for inclusion in CinemaEast Film Festival, a week-long festival to be held at the Quad Cinema in New York City, from November 4th to 10th, 2005.
ArteEast has been promoting the visibility and awareness of the diverse arts and cultures of the Middle East in the United States since 2003. ArteEast is the first organization of its kind, and its flagship program, the year-round screening and discussion series CinemaEast, named by New York Magazine one of the top emerging film programs in the city, is about to complete its fourth successful season at the Cantor Film Center at New York University (NYU).
The first annual CinemaEast Film Festival will host recent releases, New York and U.S premieres, and works by emerging filmmakers, selected by a committee of prominent members of the international film community, with an emphasis on exceptional feature films that have not yet gained distribution and exposure in the US. The festival will include a special program of shorts (fiction and non-fiction) dedicated to filmmakers from the Middle Eastern diasporas in the US. The CinemaEast series will continue at NYU in a revised format of year-round monthly screenings of documentary, experimental, rare and classic films followed by panel discussions.
We welcome works in all formats and all genres which exemplify the rich, complex, challenging and provocative nature of filmmaking from the Middle East. Entries will be judged by a panel of distinguished filmmakers, critics and scholars. For more information and to download your entry form online, go here.
Please mail your NTSC, PAL VHS or DVD screener and press materials (synopsis of the work, press reviews, pictures, filmmaker’s biography and filmography) to:
