Call for papers and art submissions

Performance Research is a peer reviewed, thematically based journal which welcomes responses to the ideas and issues it raises. Submissions and proposals do not have to relate to issue themes.

We actively seek submissions in any area of contemporary performance research, practice and scholarship from artists, scholars, curators and critics, as well as substantial articles, essays, interviews, reviews and documentation.

We welcome proposals that use visual, graphic and photographic forms, including photo essays and original artworks which extent possibilities for the printed page. We are also interested in proposals for collaborations between artists and critics.

Performance Research welcomes submissions in languages other than English and encourages work which challenges boundaries between disciplines and media.

Proposals for reviews and review articles should be sent to the e-mail address below.

The Submission Process

All proposals and submissions should be marked with the issue name and number for which they are intended, or whether they are for general consideration by the editors.

Unsolicited articles are distributed to editors and read at approximately quarterly intervals. We will contact you to let you know whether the article is rejected, or under consideration and whether we think it might be suitable for a particular issue. In general, articles are considered under the issue for which they are submitted and the following procedure applies.

The First Draft

Word Counts: Articles are generally between 3000 and 8000 words. Reviews are usually between 1000 and 2000 words, though Review Essays can be up to 4000 words.

References: Please also note that, due to constraints on the number of pages in each issue, we discourage lengthy academic references. You should try to keep any such references to 12 or less with an absolute maximum of 25 references.
