From October 14th to 18th, the nation’s capital will once again become the center of the animation universe. The Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is the largest event of its kind in North America, a major film event attracting attendees from around the world. Film buffs, art lovers and cartoon fans won’t want to miss this year’s great line up of screenings taking place at the ByTowne Cinema, the National Gallery of Canada, the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Empire Theatres Rideau Centre.

ADMINISTRATION

The Ottawa International Animation Festival is organized by the Canadian Film Institute. It is dedicated to the promotion of the art of animation and to the recognition of animation excellence.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGES

The official languages of the Festival are English and French. If possible, submit your work with an English dialogue track or with English subtitles otherwise, please submit an English dialogue script.

QUALIFICATION FOR ENTRIES

Any frame by frame or computer-assisted animated film or video made for cinema, television or internet may be entered. Only works completed after June 15, 2008 will be accepted.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Works submitted for selection can be presented on DVD in either NTSC or PAL. Entries to the New Media Competition may also be submitted on CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or website link in Flash format (SWF) ONLY.

REGISTRATION AND DATES

No registration fee is required. The entry form must be submitted online by 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time) on June 1st, 2009. The preview video must reach the festival office no later than June 15th, 2009 or it will not be considered. The entrant must include the director’s biography, director&8217;s photo (300 dpi) and a minimum of 3 stills (300 dpi) from the film. These files can be uploaded online, submitted on CD-ROM or emailed.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF FILMS FOR SELECTION

Copies of works submitted for selection must reach the festival office on or before June 15th, 2009. Works arriving after this date will not be accepted. Entrants are asked to indicate the Entry ID number when sending their preview DVD. Please ensure that your film is actually on the disc you have entered. Blank entries will not be considered.
